Gomez Orthotic Systems “GOS”, was created in 2007, By Dr. Jose Miguel Gomez T, Medical Doctor from Universidad Javeriana, Bogota Colombia, and Orthotist From Century College and Minnesota University. Gomez Orthotic Spine Systems, “GOSS” primary function is a conservative treatment for medical conditions of the spine, preventing the need for surgery in all but the most extreme cases. Conditions treated under GOSS include – congenital scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, sagittal plane deformities as spondylolysis and hyperkyphosis.
The GOSS protocol was created by Dr. Gomez from the experience of treating many patients around the world. These patients included his own daughter Angela who had early onset Idiopathic Scoliosis when she was 12 months and had to wear braces until she was 14 years of age.
“GOSS” emphasizes in Global and Segmental Alignment and Balance. It is important to see how stable the body of the patient is in order to have a successful treatment. GOSS is a unique method that understands and quantifies the “flexibility factor” to be able to predict the outcomes of bracing. The GOSS protocol is a tool used to evaluate the patient, not just the spine deformity by the X rays, which remains the standard nowadays.
Another advanced feature of GOSS is the use of CAD software. Dr. Gomez became an expert on computer-aided design (CAD) software, after using it for more than 15 years. This has allowed for highly customized braces for patients. With 30 years of experience with scoliosis and advanced tools, GOS brings a service that provides great results with spine disorders.
Dr. Gomez is now seeing patients with his daughter, Paula Gomez in Tampa, Florida.
